I believe this is the second time around JD Era has done a court surfing video for The Score. Good thing the NBA is back or we wouldn’t have another video this year. JD Era is in London January 20th with Raekwon The Chef get your tickets asap!!
We started the year getting to know who would become one of the break-out stars of 2011. Big Sean and your truly got personal and at times emotional before a sold show in T.O. I have to say Big Sean really liked me a lot even before we began this interview, he was doing other interviews and I kept making fun of him here and there. By the time we conducted the interview he took a liking to my sense of humour which he says in the interview.
“Some flood the blogs, some flood the streets. I don’t flood nothing, I’m watering the seeds.” Words a lot of “emcees” should consider. For more of his wisdom check out our interview from last May. Brother Ali and Jake One drop this dopeness, while they finish up Ali’s new album Mourning in America and Dreaming in Colour which is set for release in a couple months.

I thought SonReal and fans like me can agree he had a great 2011, every year is such a progress for him. Only a few days into 2012 and SonReal doesn’t show any signs of chillin as he just released the latest video for his single She Gone which you can download it on itunes. Song is produced by Matt Brevner and video directed by Liam Mitchell.

This week we’re going to revisit our best interviews of 2011. Starting Jan 9, the 2012 season on The Come Up Show TV kicks off with an in depth interview with upcoming mega producer T-Minus… We are going to countdown from number 7 until number 1 which will be on Sunday.
Interview #7 Best of 2011 is with Slug from Atmosphere who really opens up to us.
Interview #6. Ab-Soul sparked a blunt with yours truly to mark his first time in Canada. If you havent heard of him yet, let us introduce you to So-Cal’s own, Ab-Soul, the black-lipped bastard.
Interview #5. Like is Top Dawg labelmate, Compton’s Kendrick Lamar checked in with The Come Up Show before his first performance in front of a raucous Toronto crowd. Chillin at the Remix Project down Liberty Village, this is a must see for any Kendrick fan.
Tomorrow I will continue with Number 4.
If you missed Kardinal Offishall performance at The Wave this past November then you are most likely going to be mad at yourself after watching this EPK. If you are from Toronto and you never seen Kardinal live before….I’m not even going to go there. Audax Images followed Kardi across the globe to capture his performances. I really recommend watching this as Kardi is one of the best performers out there. I did a phone interview with Kardinal a couple months ago about this which you can check out on The Come Up Show.
Our good friends My Son The Hurricane covered Metalicca’s For Whom the Bell Tolls. Make sure to check out our interview with My Son The Hurricane on The Come up Show. Really excited to see their progress in 2012.
Known for their hip-hop styling and their charismatic rapping frontman, My Son The Hurricane, the 13-piece brass/hip-hop band from Toronto, take a 180 degree turn with a video covering Metallica’s classic track “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.
Shot in Toronto with longtime friends Tim Pienta, Justin Ferrato and the Cyco Audio Productions team, Hurricane is excited to showcase yet another side of themselves. With many members having grown up listening to Metallica’s iconic 1984 album, “Ride The Lightning”, they were eager to show that there can be a lot of “metal” in a brass band. The video features the band at their best; tight horn lines, great musicianship, and the infectious sense of fun which is seen in everything Hurricane does.
The release of the video caps off an exciting 2011, and brings in 2012 with a bang. In April 2011, the brass/hip-hop darlings, My Son The Hurricane released their debut album “You Can’t Do This” on Copperspine Records and have been touring relentlessly since. With a stint backing Polaris/Juno nominee D-Sisive and Muneshine, then releasing a lead single “Pushin’ Up Daisies” which saw significant airplay on MuchMoreMusic and features renowned emcee N.I.Gel of Pocket Dwellers fame, the band is reaching fans of many different genres. Not a band who gets scared by mixing things up, Hurricane has played large scale country and rock festivals such as St. Catharine’s SCENEfest, Guelph’s Hillside, Sault Ste. Marie’s Rotaryfest and Toronto’s Indieweek.
Consequently, Hurricane is just as at home with rock bands as they are on a hiphop bill, having shared the stage with acts like, Shad, Keys’n’Krates and USS in 2011. In the spring of 2012, the band will be heading out for a tour of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. Dates for this tour will be announced in the early spring.
