The Come Up Show presents part 3 of our interview with Phife Dawg, you might remember the 2011 documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest, you might not know that it’s a winner in the Producers Guild Award, received a Grammy and NAACP Image Awards nomination, amongst others. Phife tells us how he feels about all the attention and acclaim the documentary got. Something not too many people know is that Nas was one of the first to suggest that Tribe should do a documentary back in 2008. Michael Rapport and Nas came together to work on the documentary but due to personal issues in Nas’ life he couldn’t continue with the documentary.
Phife Dawg also tells about Q-Tip personality, why he feels Q-Tip is a reluctant superstar, Phife says “in the studio and the stage is when his ego comes out but offstage meeting and greeting he isn’t comfortable with people, he still hasn’t got used to it, I’m not sure why but it is what it is”. Check this out and more in part.3 of our itnerview with Phife Dawg, make sure to subscribe to The Come Up Show TV for part. 4 as Phife reminisces his working experience with J Dilla.

Out of nowhere today, Kanye West releases the video for Lost In The World, off his fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. If you remember the short film Kanye released for Runaway, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the style & directing in this video as it carries simalar elements. In the description of the video it states
“Hogben’s piece breaks the mould of popular rap aesthetics while still celebrating the extraordinary talent that has made West a modern icon.”
I feel this is a great summary of the video, and with that check out the video below.

The visuals for A$AP Rocky’s “Goldie” dropped today, and are definitely NSFW. That’s about all there is to say about it. Well, that and the Hit-Boy produced song still goes hard. Check out the visuals below.

The Minneapolis, MN duo recently dropped “Shine”, the first single off their upcoming album The Last Great… With MaLLy on the verses and The Sundance Kid handling the production, the two combine to create some solid hip-hop. This is actually the first time I’ve heard anything from MaLLy & The Sundance Kid, and I’m impressed. Check out the visuals for “Shine” and download the track below. The Last Great… is officially out on May 15th.

The Come Up Show Presents Part 2 of our interview with Phife Dawg, this is the first time he talks about the new album and its title Cheryl’s Big Son: The Anomaly and the first single is called Soulmen featuring one of his artists LEL. I asked Phife about the high expectation fans have because it is his first solo album in twelve years, he tells us he wasn’t thinking of making an album because of his battle with his health, unless it was a Tribe album, he was just going to produce, but all of a sudden he caught the bug again while producing. He tells us this and more in Part. 2 of our interview with Phife Dawg.
Make sure to check back tomorrow on The Come Up Show TV for part. 3 of our interview as he talks about the Tribe documentary.

The second visual off Macadelic dropped last night for the track, Clarity. Despite some fans saying they wished Mac would return to his ‘old style’, I’m really feeling the direction he’s headed with his music. Progression is a must, and Macadelic is just that for the Pittsburgh native. The video also showcases the creativity Mac has as a director, working with Ian Wolfson for Clarity’s visual. As well, check out the first video for the mixtape, Thoughts from a Balcony.

The Come Up Show had the opportunity to sit down with Phife Dawg of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest. One of the best interviews we’ve done so far as Phife sat down for over 20 minutes answering our questions about J.Dilla, the Tribe documentary, his relationship with Q-Tip and much more. Since we live in a A-D-D- world we decided to split it the interview into a few parts, in part.1 of our interview Phife discusses how he feels about Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks.
Check it out and make sure to subscribe to The Come Up Show TV for the rest of the series.

Last month we posted two videos from Chuuwee that would be featured on his mixtape Crown Me King. The ‘tape dropped last week so make sure to grab it here. Chuuwee isn’t wasting anytime as he’s already set to release his official debut LP, Wild Style, on May 29th. Below is the official promo trailer to the LP. Chuuwee got bars!
Wild Style can be summarized as pure 90s Hip Hop, where Chuuwee is taking the classic elements of the golden era with the look, sound and the feel and then applying them to the present day. Inspired by Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Big L, De La Soul with even hints of DMX, Wild Style promises to be Chuuwee’s break-out project, one that will showcase him as being a frontrunner lyricist from Hip-Hop’s new school; while also paying homage and respect to the great pioneers of the 1990’s. “Wild Style is the album that’s going to eradicate weak rap off the face of the map. It is the return of real Hip-Hop. It’s pure and it’s not me trying to re-make it. It’s not me telling you its 90s Hip-Hop; it is 90s Hip-Hop” says Chuuwee.

Rhymesayers just dropped the visuals for Brother Ali’s “Not A Day Goes By”, a brand new track produced by Jake One. This has definitely got me excited for his upcoming album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, which he recently talked about with HipHopDX. Brother Ali is about to head to Europe to tour with Grieves and Budo throughout the month of May before returning to Minneapolis to host Rhymesayers’ 5th annual Soundset Festival. Check out the visuals for “Not A Day Goes By” and download the track below.

Ab-Soul comes through with yet another visual from his upcoming project, Control System, which is due out May 11th. “Empathy” really shows Ab’s versatility with a softer side that we don’t usually get from this TDE member. Along with Ab’s (unexpected) singing, the song features vocals from JaVonte’ and the late Alori Joh who has been feautured on several TDE songs in the past including a great performance on Kendrick Lamar’s “HiiiPower”. Remember to check out the previous video from Ab “Pineal Gland” as well as our most recent interview with him last year. Peep the video below.

While at the Paid Dues festival in San Bernardino earlier last month, Murs sat down with Kendrick Lamar and the Swim Team for some pretty funny interviews. Murs and Kendrick talk about Nardwuar, Ab-Soul, and the rest of the TDE crew. The Swim Team talks about old times and groupie love, among other things. Check out the interviews below. If you haven’t seen Chedo’s interview with Kendrick Lamar yet, check it out here.
